Hi Peter. Just wondering if you really are too slow or writer or if rather you are a human being frozen by the trauma of what you’re witnessing/experiencing. The unspeakable is a language of one word, after all.
Hi, Kate. I'm sure trauma has something to do with it, though I keep reminding myself that whatever I'm experiencing is only the outermost periphery of the violence that's entered so much of American life. I think one of the few responsibilities of being a writer, or a certain kind of writer, is to try to adequately respond to the thing that would otherwise strike you silent. Otherwise I get to work in my sweats.
This too shall pass. You can fight but don’t let anyone steal the other experience of life from you. Anyway that’s what I say when I swim in the Honolulu ocean every day.
I can relate that it's a challenge to keep up with Substack when bigger projects need more focused attention. I also believe it's not every writer's responsibility to write about the evil in the world all the time... you can if you want to, but it's also okay to not or take a break from it, because any creative expression of truth is a spiritual act that heals.
Good to hear from you. Always and whenever.

Beautifully written and of the moment. Very much how I feel.
